1;46 The bigger question is why did Japan not build a traditional athletes' village? Because of cost cutting. Usually at major multisport events, athletes are all brought together in one village. They have dining halls, gyms, recreation spaces and training facilities close by. It also creates a sense of community. Athletes from different countries live side by side. But Japan chose a different model. Instead of one large athletes' village, the organizers are using hotels, a cruise ship, and temporary cabin-style accommodation. The idea was to save money to avoid building a village that could become a white elephant after the games.
より大きな問題は、なぜ日本は従来型の選手村を建設しなかったのか、ということです。

通常、大規模な総合スポーツ大会では、選手たちは全員、一つの選手村に集められます。そこには食堂、ジム、レクリエーション施設、そして近くにトレーニング施設があります。また、それによって一体感も生まれます。異なる国の選手たちが隣り合って暮らすのです。
しかし、日本は別の方式を選びました。
一つの大きな選手村の代わりに、主催者はホテル、クルーズ船、そして一時的なキャビン式の宿泊施設を利用しています。
その考え方は、ゲーム終了後に「ホワイト・エレファント（維持費ばかりかかる無用の長物）」になりかねない選手村を建設するのを避け、費用を節約するというものでした。
