Glass has existed in nature for billions of years.
It's formed by meteorite impacts,
lightning strikes and volcanic eruptions.
But when humans came along, they found ways to use glass.
Obsidian is volcanic glass.
It forms when lava cools quickly.
It's extremely brittle,
so when you hit it with another rock,
you can chip off sections of it
to make a sharper and sharper edge.
There's evidence of obsidian being used
for cutting implements, arrowheads and tips of spears,
as early as 1.2 million years ago.
