The State of the Union 一般教書演説

正確には The State of the Union address という。一般教書演説と和訳されるが教書の教は教科書の教ではなくむしろ教会の教。つまり高い地位にある人などからの書簡。国の現状(The State of the Union)について大統領が所見を述べ、その他国の重要事項について所信表明をするのが一般教書演説。The State of the Union is strong, good, not good. などのような言い方になるが、The State of the Union is not good. と言ったのはウォーターゲート事件でニクソン大統領の辞任後に大統領に繰り上がったフォード大統領だけだと思う。1:55 and I must say to you that The State of the Union is not good. 議員衆には、アメリカの現状はよろしくない、と伝えなければなりません。
