昨日、本ブログの読者から質問を頂いた。その質問を、コピペする。「yieldという動詞には色々な意味があり、日本人にはイールドカーブという時にその単語を名詞として使う以外あまり馴染みの無い単語だと思うのですが、貴ブログではyieldにスポットをあてて取り上げてないですが、英語圏では実際にそれほどよく使われないですか?」　さて、英語圏では　yield　と言う動詞はあまり使われないのか？と言う質問のようだ。単語の増やし方だが、まず、音ありき、文字ありき、であることをしっかりと認識しなければならない。もしも、一日に5時間以上英語を毎日聞いて、読んで、20年以上勉強して、動詞の　yield　にお目にかからなければ、英語圏では　yield　と言う動詞はあまり使われない、という結論になる。実際はどうなのか？私のブログの左コラムの「過去の記事を検索（キーワードを打ち込む）」に　yield　を打ち込んで検索すると　glazed look うつろな表情　が出て来る。記事の下の方に　10-year yield　10年ものの国債の利回り　とある。ここでの　yield は名詞だ。なるほど、私のブログには　yield 関係の記事が乏しい。そこで、すこし、動詞の　yield を紹介する。

yield は交通標識で、道を譲れの意味。
