このブログでいつも言うことだが、わからないものはわからない。これはヒアリングの基本中の基本だと思う。同じことばかり言うのは訳がある。昨日インターネットの広告に「一日五分の英会話」という宣伝を見たからだ。三ヶ月、一日15分、一日5分と英会話の宣伝文句は徐々に短くなっていく。これは真面目な語学習得論では、集客が出来ないことを意味している。つまり、一日最低五時間を10年続けると言うまっとうな話が通じなくなっていると言うことだ。一日5分とかの甘い夢を見てはいけない。これもヒアリングの基本といえる。英語の勉強はヒアリングから始めるのがいいと思うが、まず学習態度を正すことからはじめる必要がある。私の身近にもいつも甘い言葉に引っかかって、いつまでも英語が上達しない人がいる。途方も無い時間を無駄にしているような気がする。つまり、三ヶ月、一日15分、一日5分などの学習法では、「安物買いの銭失い」に終わるだけだと言いたい。とにかく、わからないものはわからない、甘い夢を見るな、をおぼえておいてほしい。

さて次に、わからないものはわからないから、まず、わかる必要がある。ここで役に立つのが英英辞書であり先人からのアドバイスになる。これを無限に繰り返すのが学習で、わからないものが少なくなると、わかるものが必然的に増えてくる。そうすると、ヒアリングが向上するし、本がすらすら読めるようになる。当たり前のことだが、この英語を勉強してこのレベルに達する人は少ないと思う。書店の洋書コーナーを見ても英書が飛ぶように売れているようには見えないし、（横須賀で）アメリカ人と話している日本人の英語はお世辞にもうまいとはいえない。横須賀のレベルが低いと言われればそれまでの話しになってしまうのだが、、、、

わかるものを増やしていくと、だんだん意味を推せるようになる。1:17 she says to me, 'don't worry about it, because you're not gonna fly with us.' ここでは　worry の発音が普通ではないが、文意から他の言葉ではないことが、推測できる。これはごく簡単な例だが、教科書どおりの発音をしてくれる人はすくないこともおぼえておこう。
