輪王寺に行くと必ず案内人を雇わなければいけない。港町の横須賀で、案内人と言われるとなんとなく水先案内人を想像してしまう。水先案内人は　pilot と言う。飛行機の　pilot と同じだが、水先案内人としての pilot の方が歴史が古い。さて、案内人なのだが、英語ではガイドという。ガイドと言う言葉を使わずに案内人という、、、感心する。観光ガイドは添乗員のこと、案内人は日光案内人のこと。本来は同じ意味でも、ニュアンスの違う二つの言葉になってしまう。あたかも、領収書とレシートの関係のようだ。コンビニでレシートはすぐくれるが、領収書を頼むと、ちょっと時間がかかり、店員の判子がついたものをくれる。13:00 having a guide is useful if not essential to learn about the fauna and surrounding history. 注；flora を fauna と言い違えたのではないかと思う。

私の英語ノート 2018/10/23

日光見ずして結構と言うなかれを英語でなんと言うか？ と言うくらい日光は素晴らしかった、、、のだと思う。少なくても小学生の時に行ったときは輪王寺や華厳の滝などは堪能できた。昨日は町内会の旅行で輪王寺、東照宮、陽明門、三猿、眠り猫、、、、、とお決まりのコースを辿ったのだが、人が多すぎたと言う印象が強く残る。世界に無名だった頃の東照宮は古臭いままだったが輝いていた。世界遺産になり修復も終わり金ぴかの陽明門には心なしか「はい、お次の人」と急かされる。世界遺産のようなスーパースターになってしまうと人付き合いが悪くなるのだろう。東照宮に祀られている家康は、観光客の手が届く範囲の要所要所を透明なアクリル板で保護された自分の菩提寺を草葉の陰で泣いて見ていることだろう。

去年の町内会の旅行は秩父だった。秩父駅の二階でとてもおいしい昼食を食べていたが中国人団体客が入ってきて、大声で喋り始めたので、日本人観光客は全員が「一体何事が起こったのか」と一斉にそちらを見てしまった。みんな心の中ではマナーがなってないな、と思っていたに違いなかった。さて、昨日の昼食だが某観光センターの二階で食べた。すると修学旅行の小学生160人がなだれ込んできて、またまた超うるさかった。隣に座ったお年寄りは「にぎやかでいいじゃないの」と言っておられたが、大人がうるさいのも子供がうるさいのも、両方うるさい。中国人の大人と日本人の小学生の決定的な違いは、小学生修学旅行団体は食べた後お重を重ねテーブルを綺麗に片付けてから「ごちそうさまでした」と大合唱して帰って行った事だ。

久々にオバマ節を聞いたが、気合が入っている。大統領の頃よりもいいスピーチになっている。オバマの英語は勉強に適している。35:24 the biggest threat to our democracy is indifference. 民主主義の最大の敵は政治に無関心になることだ。

沢田研二が公演をドタキャンして、歌手の意地が云々と言う記事を読んだ。それで、同僚に「仕事を引き受けた以上は這ってでも舞台に上がる」のがプロじゃないのか？と聞いたら、「ジュリーのドタキャンには賛否両論がある」と言われた。つまり、大勢のファンの期待よりも自分の一人の意地のほうが大切というジュリーを支持する人間もいたわけだ。よくわからない。3:14 it's hard to do a show. but it's much harder to cancel shows. we disappointed a lot of people. 公演はつらいけど、公演を中止するの大勢のファンの期待を裏切ってしまいもっとつらい。（でも、夫の看病のため、仕方がなかった。）この理由ならよくわかる。

「急がば回れ」の英訳は haste makes waste でいいと思う。「もののふの　矢橋の船は速けれど　急がば回れ　瀬田の長橋」の由来どおりなら、確実に目的地に到着したいなら陸路を選べということになる。近道のように見える水路は危険で確実性がないばかりか、陸路を行くよりもかえって時間がかかってしまう。矢橋の読みはやばせ。2:19 草津から大津まで陸路を歩くと三里、琵琶湖を船で行くと一里。

「マー君に差別用語？現地放送局コメンテーターにネット上で非難集中」を読んだ。これは、中国人に対しての差別と取られる可能性があると思っていたが、アジア人全般に向けられた差別用語となっているようだ。単なる誤解なのだが、仕方ないと思う。ちょっと記事を丸写ししてみる。 　「６日に行われたア・リーグ地区シリーズ第２戦において、現地放送局のコメンテーター、ロン・ダーリング氏（５８）が先発したヤンキースの田中に対し、アジア人に対しての差別とも取れるコメントしたためにネット上で非難が集中した。
