Konnichiwa ~ This Wednesday, the 25th of February, marked the beginning of Lent Season for 2009. The Catholic Church celebrates this in honor of Jesus who died on the Cross for our sins. What does this mean that this Holy man "died on the Cross for our sins"?
I must start with some historical explanation first - Humans have always had the urge to fight, do evil, etc. Because of the Adam and Eve incident we are subject to sins - a knowledge we were not to have originally. But, because God gave us Choice, we are subjected to sin through Adam and Eve - and we will never be let go of it until Jesus comes to Earth again.
The Devil has always been battling for our souls. Because God created us (we are created in His image) He brought Himself down to Earth and roamed in the flesh to spare our souls. He called His flesh made image, Jesus, and picked Mary and Joseph to be Jesus parents/guardians on Earth. This is where we understand and practice Humbleness from - God Humbled Himself to our form (human) to be amongst and lead us out of sin and into Salvation.
This leads to the further understand of humbleness and the Cross. I will not expound on the Cross today, but it is a very powerful tool against the Devil, and should be acknowledged strongly at all times by all Christians.
So, Jesus (God) died on the Cross for our Sins...how is this so? The Devil's presence was very strong on Earth at that time and there was a battle between God and the Devil. Because Jesus (God) sacrificed his flesh life for us - something the Devil would not do - He rose above the ways of the Devil and beat sin. As it is in the prayer (and in the Bible), "He was hung on a tree (cross because his arms were spread out), he died, and descended to Hell. He rose 3 days later, and ascended into Heaven." What human does that? Why would someone make that story up and if it was made up - how is it that so many people believe to this day and many miracles are worked through the belief of this "man"? It is because He is Love and God/Jesus/Holy Spirit (our Creator).
I will talk more about the Holy Spirit later, that's soon after Easter. Today we concentrate on the fact that Jesus overcame Sin and the Devil and He fought for our Souls - we should never take this for granted.
