polyglot （= many tongues, 多国語を話せる人）は珍しくはない。欧米系のポリグロットたちが日本語や韓国語を話し出すと途端にぎこちなくなる。これは日本語や韓国語は彼らにとって正真正銘の外国語になるからだ。同じように、日本人からしてみれば、韓国語は正真正銘の外国語ではなく兄弟語だ。しかし英語はれっきとした外国語になる。韓国語と日本語の文法は同じで、単語も95％は同じだ。日本語の単語を韓国語に置き換えるだけで意味は通じる。英語ではそのようなことは出来ない。だからこそ英語を勉強する時には毎日、単語やイディオムを増やしていかなければいけない。一日50語のペースでだ。文法の勉強はひたすら構文、文型を暗記する。これ以外の勉強法は存在しない。もし、暗記が不必要と書いてある本や、そのようなことを言う人がいれば、それは営利目的の嘘だ。6:32 この二人の女性はソウルにある延世大学韓国語学堂に通っているようだ。7;07（韓国語には）ヨーロッパ語族とは同じ単語がなく文法もポルトガル語とは全然違います。（韓国語は）自然に身につく言葉ではないと思います。

英語ができない人はチンパンジー扱い…｢日本人の米グーグル副社長｣が31歳から英語を猛勉強し始めたワケ　を休み時間にちょっとだけ読んでみた。この31歳から英語を猛勉強し始めた人物は村上憲郎氏で、一日に3時間、三年間英語を勉強されたそうだ。、、、、、

そして、休憩室にいた同僚に一日3時間を三年間続けると、やっとスタートライン、、、と話しておいた。この同僚はテレビを見る時間と削らなければ、、とぼやいたので、「テレビは見てはいけない」と諭しておいた。英語を本格的に勉強したい人は起きている全ての時間を英語に費やすべきだろう。それを、、3年、いや5年、7年、、、、ずっと続けなければいけない。これを実践すると、英語で考えたくなくても、英語が頭を占領してくるので、英語で考えてしまうだろう。毎日のインプットを欠かしてはいけない。

、、、幸い、日本は日本語だけで物事が完結する国だ。だから、英語を勉強したい人だけが英語を勉強すればいい、と思う。

私の英語ノート 2024/07/27

「あのスイングに穴は多くない」　大谷に球宴初本塁打を献上した投手も脱帽　ジャッジらスター選手を呆然とさせた「破壊力」とは　一週間ほど前のニュースなのだが、多分、there aren't many holes in that swing. をそのまま訳した結果が「あのスイングに穴は多くない」となったのだろう。しかしこのような日本語は存在しない。あのスイングに欠点は多くない、あのスイングは完璧に近い、としなければいけない箇所だ。英語の hole には　ミス　の意味もある。このような訳についてインターネット上ではおかしいと言う声があがらなかった。不思議だ。

トランプを狙った「銃弾の軌跡」という写真もあるが、この写真を見るとトランプはスーパーマン並みの反射神経で手を動かしている。この写真の真偽はともかくとして、ネット上に疑問の声があがっていない。こちらも不思議だ。

留学して英語がペラペラになる日本人は沢山いる、と同僚二人に話した。その理由は日本人にはすでに中学と高校でつめ込まれた英語の土台があるからだ。留学は話すきっかけを作ってくれる。多分、海外に出た多くの日本人は最初の一ヶ月でかなり英語が話せるようになるだろう。私も二ヶ月ほど前にフィリッピンで語学留学をしている日本人女性三人組に出会ったことがある。大学での勉強ではなく、大学以外の場所で勉強しているのだと思う。そこで費用を調べると、一週間で20万円が目安のようだ。半年で約150万円となっている。、、、、そこで、私は同僚二人に言い放った。英語をマスターするのに外国に行く必要はまったくない、と。すると、笑われてしまった。私は何か面白いことを言ったのだろうか？　余計なことになるが、1ドル155円くらいだと、フィリピンの物価のほうが日本の物価よりもはるかに高くなる。だから、現在のレートで半年語学留学をすると、200万を軽く超えてくるはずだ。

トランプ暗殺未遂事件の翌日、同僚が「トランプが勝ちますね。」と言ってきたので、「バイデンだろ」と言い返し、「じゃ、ジュース一本で」「じゃ、ジュースで」。となった。時を50年ほど遡って、朴正煕暗殺未遂事件を振り返ると、難を逃れた朴大統領は、演台の下に逃げた弱い大統領だと、日本のマスコミは書いていたと記憶している。凶弾は朴大統領夫人に命中し、夫人は命を落とした。この直後、朴大統領は演説を続ける、、、これが強さと言うものだ。拳を振り上げた写真を撮らせて退場することではない。ちなみに、朴大統領は暗殺未遂の五年後に暗殺された。つまり、独裁者の暗殺は一度で終わる、とは限らないのだ。
