Land reclamation 埋め立て

Land reclamation　が埋め立て、埋立地は　reclaimed land となり、何の問題もないのだが。そもそも、reclaim とは、一度失ったものを取り返す、つまり　take back を意味する。だから、埋め立てを　reclaim と言うと、以前人間のものであった土地が海に侵食され、それを人間が取り返す、、のかと思ってしまう。単語のこのような使い方は人間のおごりなのかもしれない。最近は温暖化の影響で海岸線が侵食され、水没する島などがあると聞く。だから、将来は　reclaim と言う単語に違和感がなくなるかもしれない。 4;40 Japan express fears over China's reclamation work in the South China Sea.
