人生とは何ぞや？

英語で人生(life)をさす言葉は二つある。ひとつはjourney（旅）でもうひとつはrace（競争）です。われわれが旅を初めて聞くのは葬儀屋で「旅支度（たびじたく）が整いました。」くらい。つまり、日本で旅とは死後の世界を意味する。しかし英語では現世が旅となる。raceとはキリスト教の観念でいつか書いたのでここでは割愛する。0;36 but for Jiro, the journey isn't over. 次郎さんにとって、修行はまだ道半ばだ。
