冷たい石でも上に三年間座っていれば暖かくなる、つまり何事も根気が大切で｢三日坊主」の反対の表現といえます。三日坊主の的確な英訳はなく（quitterが一番近くても半分のニュアンスでした)石の上にも三年もthree years on the rock/stoneといって分かってもらうのが一番ですが、そこまでの勘(センス)は外人に期待できないのでやはり説明を加えなければ理解されないでしょう。even a cold stone eventually turns warm if you can sit on it for three years.(=you can accomplish just about anything if you keep at it long enough)
