片言英語二百十万円也

聞き流すだけで英語がマスターできるわけがない。

いろいろな、英語関係の魑魅魍魎（ちみもうりょう）とした怪宣伝がインターネットを徘徊している。聞き流すだけで英語がマスターできるというのはキリスト教で死んだ人間が生き返るのを信じるのと同じようにおろかなことだ。聞き流すだけで英語がマスターと言う文句は自社の英語教材を売るための宣伝文句(sales pitch)であってその教材の強み(selling point)ではないことを肝に銘じてほしい。わからないものは百万回聞こうがわかるわけがない。五合目、六合目、、七、八、九合目を経なければ富士山頂に立てないように、わかる単語、イディオムを徐々に増やしていかないことには英語のマスターはかなわない。万に一つの奇跡は起こらないし、その奇跡の起こらない確率だけは間違いなく100パーセントと言える。甘い宣伝文句に引っかかってはいけない。

テレビは見てはいけない

今朝、一連の「英語で考える」関連記事をフェースブックに投稿したが、YouTubeのトップにあるコマーシャルビデオを誤って押してしまったからだ。それはある大手の英語で考える方式の学校のものだった。英語で考えるにはなにか秘法があるかのごとくもったいぶった口調だった。秘法などはない。英語で考えると言うのは誰でもやっていることで難しい口伝を必要とするものではない。ましてや、どこかの学校の専売特許でもない。正しい方法で毎日勉強する、、、これ以外の道はどこにもない。

言いづらいに相当する英語表現は多数存在するが、使いやすいパターンは早く身に付けることです。何度も繰り返して聞く、自分で使ってみる。簡単です。昨日近所の本屋に辞書を見に行った。昔の辞書は紙とインクの混ざったいいにおいがしたものだ。今の辞書にはそれがない。悲しい。、、、問題は内容だからにおいは関係ないが、その内容はどれも似たり寄ったりだ。多分辞書と言うものは昔作られた内容はそのままで新しい語彙を追加しているだけなのだろう。辞書はいつか書いたとおり言葉の昔の姿を載せた本だ。だから、既存の語彙に新しい語彙を加えていくだけで何の問題もない。しかし言葉の現在の姿は街中を闊歩している。I hate to break it to you butが辞書に載るのは5年10年後だろう。1:05:29 I hate to break this to you, Ming, but you ain't Asian. こう言うのもなんだが、お前さんはアジア人には見えないぜ。
